Job Description

The midwife is a person who has acquired the requisite qualifications to be registered and licensed to practise midwifery in Saskatchewan.They are able to give necessary care and advice to clients during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct deliveries on their own responsibility, and to care for the infant and the client. This care includes preventative measures and the detection of abnormal conditions in the client and baby. The midwife has an important task in health promotion, counselling and education, not only for the client but also for the family and the community. Midwives in Swift Current work in a level one hospital with diverse clientele from many rural communities. New and general registrants are welcome to apply.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • CPR-HCP (Level C)
  • Valid drivers license and the ability to travel both within the Region and Provincially.
  • Graduate of an educational program approved by the Saskatchewan College of Midwives (Transitional Council).
  • Current active practising registration with Saskatchewan College of Midwives (Transitional Council).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent, family-based and strength-based services using holistic approach attending to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of the child and family
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates facilitation skills in successfully promoting collaborative practice with other health professionals.
  • Demonstrates clinical assessment, diagnostic, pharmacotherapeutics and therapeutic intervention skills working within the midwifery scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates leadership, confidence and autonomy in the midwifery role.

Additional Information

Position requires availability to work evenings, nights, weekends and on-call responsibility

The successful candidate is responsible to obtain and provide an original Criminal Record Check (CRC) & Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from their local police service, RCMP or previous country/countries of residence that is dated within the past six (6) months that is satisfactory to the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Internal candidates may be required to provide a CRC & VSC during recruitment and selection process.
