An Anesthesia Assistant (AA) is a highly trained healthcare professional who works under the direct supervision of an anesthesiologist to assist in providing anesthesia care to patients in multiple settings throughout the hospital.
What is it like working as an Anesthesia Assistant with the Saskatchewan Health Authority?
As an Anesthesia Assistant with the SHA, you will participate in the care of the surgical patient through medical directives under the supervision of the Anesthesiologist. This position reports to the Operating Room Manager.

How do I become an Anesthesia Assistant?
To work as an Anesthesia Assistant, you will require an Anesthesia diploma (DA). Most accredited courses are a one-year online program. Currently, there are four accredited programs throughout Canada, including:

- University of Manitoba
- Dalhousie University
Remuneration
Anesthesia Assistants in Saskatchewan are compensated through a standardized salary pay band. Compensation is based on experience and qualifications, with defined salary ranges established through provincial agreements.
