The Heart of Saskatchewan’s Scenic Parkland

Shellbrook Richardson Pioneer Recreation Centre
Built in the 1970s by volunteers, the facility was showing its age by the 2020s. The community rallied to raise nearly $2M for major upgrades, including a 100 kW solar array, improving efficiency, accessibility, and ensuring it remains a vital gathering place for years to come.

Situated in the heart of Saskatchewan’s scenic parkland, Shellbrook is a dynamic and steadily growing community of more than 1,500 residents. Located just 30 minutes west of Prince Albert – and within easy reach of Saskatoon (90 minutes) – the town offers the perfect blend of small-town charm and convenient access to urban amenities. Set in the transition zone between aspen parkland and boreal forest, Shellbrook has deep roots in agriculture and forestry, shaped by the early settlers who cleared jack pine forests to cultivate the land.

Today, Shellbrook is a vibrant hub for recreation, community life, and outdoor adventure. Residents enjoy top-tier facilities such as the Richardson Pioneer Recreation Centre and the highly regarded Hidden Hills of Shellbrook Golf Course. Local amenities include a regional library, theatre, pool and water park, Kinsmen Campground, outdoor skating rink, and a very active seniors club, offering programs, gatherings, and social opportunities for older adults. The town is also home to a large, fully equipped hall used for weddings, banquets, performances, conferences, and events of every kind.

Shellbrook’s access to nature is exceptional. With the spectacular Prince Albert National Park just minutes away –    and seven regional parks plus countless lakes nearby – Shellbrook is a gateway to fishing, boating, camping, hiking,    and year-round exploration.

“The whole staff in the building is like family.”

“Shellbrook is surrounded by many lakes for those that love camping, boating and simply love the outdoors. We are a sports-minded community that enjoys hockey, ball and lacrosse. I work along-side a wonderful team including our own technicians, nursing staff and Doctors.

The whole staff in the building is like family. A rural hospital comes with its own challenges but it is like no other. The skills and knowledge allows us to perform as an excellent care setting.”
