Community Profile

City of Bridges

Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon
Saskatoon boasts ten, and by some counts, over a dozen distinct structures (including major traffic bridges, rail bridges, and pedestrian spans) that cross the South Saskatchewan River. These numerous crossings connect the east and west sides of the city, serving as vital infrastructure for transportation, commerce, and community connection since the early 20th century

Grab a Bite

Odla Restaurent, Saskatoon
Saskatoon boasts a vibrant, rapidly evolving restaurant scene with one of Canada's highest restaurants-per-capita rates. It features a strong focus on farm-to-table prairie ingredients, creative chef-driven concepts, and diverse international cuisine, particularly in the Broadway and Downtown areas. Key trends include elevated Canadian dishes, cozy diners, and a lively patio culture.

Play All Day

Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park
Saskatoon's recreation scene is defined by its extensive, year-round, river-focused, and accessible, urban nature, highlighted by the vast Meewasin Valley trail network along the South Saskatchewan River. It features numerous, well-maintained parks, indoor/outdoor leisure centers, and versatile, seasonal activities, including skating rinks, golf courses, and popular summer programs.

Faith

The faith scene in Saskatoon is diverse, historically rooted, and currently undergoing a period of transition, characterized by a mix of traditional, deeply embedded Christian denominations, active community-focused ministries, and increasing secularization. Based on 2021 Census data, Catholic and other Christian groups make up a significant portion of the population, yet nearly 38% of residents identify as having no religious affiliation.

In addition to Catholic and Christian groups, Saskatoon is home to a wide range of faith communities and spiritual traditions that reflect the city’s growing cultural diversity and deep Indigenous roots. Residents can connect with vibrant Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, and Jewish communities, supported by places of worship such as the Baitur Rahmat Mosque, Saskatoon Sikh Society Gurdwara, Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Saskatoon Buddhist Centre, and Congregation Agudas Israel. Indigenous spiritual traditions are also an important part of this landscape, with First Nations and Métis teachings expressed through ceremony, storytelling, drumming, smudging, and cultural gatherings, often shared and supported in spaces such as Wanuskewin Heritage Park.

Together, these communities contribute to the city’s inclusive atmosphere through cultural events, festivals, and community programming, offering meaningful opportunities for spiritual connection, cultural exchange, and shared understanding.

“I am hugely appreciative of the wonderful career development and physician leadership opportunities Saskatchewan has provided.”

"Saskatchewan is truly a hidden gem – okay, maybe not so hidden anymore. As I reflect on 25 years of living and working in Saskatchewan (Saskatoon is home), I count my many blessings.

Not only have my wife and I both had flourishing and immensely rewarding medical careers in Saskatoon, we have been blessed to raise our children in a truly diverse and caring community.

I am also hugely appreciative of the wonderful career development and physician leadership opportunities Saskatchewan has provided. Saskatchewan is home and I am grateful for it."
