The history of Carrot River is one of the modern pioneer that begins in the 1930s, of perseverance and growth that lead to incorporation in 1948, and of economic booms into the 1960s. This all culminated into the town we know today, full of resilience, and perseverance.

Carrot River continues to thrive with mainstay industries in agriculture, peat moss and lumber. In 2015 Carrot River was branded as Saskatchewan’s OUTBACK, speaking to the land, rivers, forest and lakes surrounding the area as well as the tenacious and resilient spirit of the people past and present. Fringing the Pasquia Hills, rivers, Tobin Lake and the boreal forest, Carrot River truly is Saskatchewan’s OUTBACK. Life here is connected with nature… we live, play, and work with and among the land.

Carrot River offers a range of housing options, from detached single-family homes to a limited number of apartment units and government rental housing. While private rentals are less common, new residents can generally find affordable and comfortable options to suit their needs.

The community of Carrot River provides local supports to assist healthcare practitioners and families successfully settle within the community. In particular, the community supports new healthcare professionals in finding spousal or family employment, housing, childcare, school enrollment guidance, and building cultural connections within the community.

Health Care

Carrot River offers a Medical Clinic, with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals offering services to residents. The Health Centre serves to support excellent health care services by offering supplementing services to the Medical Clinic with a medical laboratory, x-ray services, trauma and treatment rooms, and wellness programs. 

Recreation and Education

Carrot River has a community recreation department that offers many programs and events and manages a Skating Rink, Community Hall, RV Park and Community Square (green space). The community offers various clubs for youth and adults: hockey, skating, gymnastics, yoga, fitness, ect. In addition, Carrot River has support services for youth with active Blessings and KidSport committees. With annual festivals, an active Junior B hockey program, Seniors group, and a beautiful Regional Park just 10 minutes away Carrot River is sure to have recreation opportunities to suit you!

Carrot River is in the Northeast School division and has a new K-12 public school. This facility is state of the art and will match the already high achievements of academic and athletic success that our school has maintained for generations. The community also offers a Pre-School co-operative and Casper’s Early Learning Centre, a government subsidized daycare.
