Job Description

The Health Educators plays a crucial role in the development of healthy and inclusive social, psychological, emotional and physical First Nation and Metis communities. Utilising the circular model of Holistic health care, the Educator will ensure the cultural and traditional needs of the patient are an equally considered factor when developing their health plan. The Educator is expected to employ an effective combination of SHR Values combined with guidance from Elders, colleagues, personal experience, post secondary education and specialized training to assist clients in their efforts to sustain balance in all aspects of their lives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in a health-related field

  • Ability to communicate with and maintain an effective working relationship with clients from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to develop and deliver formal education programs
  • Ability to exercise tact, maintain confidentiality and demonstrate openness to religious and cultural diversity
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of Wellness and Holistic models of health care
  • Knowledge of crisis and suicide intervention
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and ability to appropriately intervene/attain appropriate intervention in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of diverse health issues, culture and traditions
  • Presentation skills
  • Strong listening skills, specific counseling and assessment skills
  • Understanding of the Ministry of Social Services policies, procedures, regulations and plan manual

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.

Additional Information

Knowledge & experience of the Provincial Child Welfare system is considered an asset Preferred ability to fluently speak and understand Cree and/or Salteaux language. Must have valid driver's license. Positions are under review (Title, Rate of pay, classification) The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) requires a criminal record check (CRC) from every potential SHA team member. The CRC must be dated within the past six (6) months and be satisfactory to the SHA. A vulnerable sector check (VSC) is required for individuals providing patient/resident/client care to vulnerable persons. Internal candidates may be required to provide a CRC and/or VSC during the recruitment and selection process.
