The Long Term Care / Home Care (LTC / HC) Nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute illnesses, stable chronic conditions, and conditions more specific to geriatric population. The RN(NP) practices with a framework of evidence-based primary care, holism, health promotion, and disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals, families, communities and the Long Term Care Unit and home care clients. This includes supporting inter-professional collaboration, and participating in continuous improvements through evaluative processes and projects.
- Masters Degree in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Level C Health Care Provider (HCP) - Heart & Stroke
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) as an RN (NP)
Two years full time experience working as an advanced RN(NP) in community or long term care setting.
-Demonstrates clinical/health assessment, diagnostic, pharmacotherapeutic and therapeutic interventions skills working to the scope of practice of the RN(NP) role
-Enhanced knowledge of clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses and stable chronic diseases
-Ability to teach and mentor staff and other clerical trainees
-Knowledge of leadership strategies in order to lead, encourage, advise and collaborate with colleages to achieve resident, team and departmental goals within available resources
-Ability to lead changes and to develop policies governing clinical practices
-Valid Drivers Licence
-Northern or Geriatric experience is an asset
