Mamawetan: PLAY
|
 |
 |
 |
|
The Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region covers nearly 25% of the entire province.
Heading North, you can experience a wide range of activities in a beautiful, natural setting. There are great opportunities for canoeing, hiking, skiing, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. Some of the attractions include Lac La Ronge Provincial Park, Nistowiak Falls, and the Nipikamew Sand Cliffs.
More information on attractions can be found on Northern Saskatchewan Tourism's website.
LA RONGE
One of the major centres in the region is the combined communities of the
Town of La Ronge,
the Village of Air Ronge, and the surrounding residents of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. Take
advantage of the following:
Sports
Get involved and keep fit at the Eagle Point Golf Course, 24/7 Fitness, Hockey, Judo, Figure Skating, Ski Club,
Snowmobile Club, Canoe Club, and community sports including badminton, basketball, volleyball, TaeKwonDo, and TaiChi. You can also "Back the Pack" by cheering on the SJHL La Ronge Ice Wolves.
Arts & Culture
If you love to laugh, the drama group, Peanut Productions, presents a comedy every winter. The La Ronge Arts Council brings in various performing artists and visual art exhibits throughout the year. The La Ronge and Area Music Festival Association showcases local talent at a Music Festival each spring. The Wild Rice Writers' Group meets every two weeks, photo enthusiasts can join the Mostly in Focus Camera Club, and if you enjoy quilting, the Friendship Quilters will welcome you.
Service Clubs
The Royal Canadian Legion, Elks Club and Order of the Royal Purple are community-minded groups that take on various initiatives. Enjoy the Elks' Fair in July. Air Cadets provide young people with the opportunity to grow into responsible citizens, while learning skills and having fun.
CREIGHTON
Creighton residents can participate in a variety of recreational activities at home and with
their Flin Flon neighbours just across the border in Manitoba. Chamber of Commerce, Elks,
Kinsmen, Rotary, Masons, Odd Fellows, Loyal Orange Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Knights
of Columbus, Lions, Red Cross, Cancer Society, Mental Health, Oldster's Club, Wildlife
Federation, Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies as well as others are all active in the
Creighton-Flin Flon area. Creighton has a sports complex which has artificial regulation
hockey ice. At present this facility operates from October to April.
During the summer months other programs are provided. As well, Creighton provides an
excellent outdoor spray/wading pool and park. The Creighton schoolyard provides an
excellent ball diamond (artificially lit), basketball court, tennis court, and
football-soccer area. Other recreation outlets in the area are curling, drive-in theatre,
bowling, archery, skeet shooting, small bore range, hockey, tennis, badminton, indoor
and outdoor swimming, skiing (both snow and water), and snowmobiling.
